Launching on Thursday 7th December 2023, our Ruby Port Cask finished Nocino is the second aged bottling from The House of Botanicals with less than 200 bottles available. Forming part of our range of Aperitivi & Digestivo, the range takes cues from the roots of our founder and is inspired by the drinking culture of Italy. Our Nocino is produced annually with our 2022 vintage made available to the public in October 2022, and this oak finished variant being rested weeks later.
Though walnut liqueurs are known across the world – as Brou de Noix (France), NutZino (New Zealand), and Nucata (Romania) – Nocino (pronounced no-CHEEN-oh) is most commonly associated with and consumed in Italy as a digestif. It is believed to have origins in the northern and eastern parts of the Kingdom of Alba (now Scotland), with the earliest records linked to the Pictish people who consumed it as a restorative tonic, for its perceived medicinal qualities, and as a digestive aid.
We believe it is best enjoyed chilled, alongside Manchego or Pecorino cheese and in variants of Cocktails, and Liqueur Coffees.
