OUR SUSTAINABILITY COMMITMENT
The House of Botanicals wish to work for the betterment of people, the planet and the communities we impact
B CORP CERTIFICATION
B Corp Certified businesses have been independently verified by B Lab to meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability, and are part of a global movement made up of 5000 companies from 154 industries in 79 countries committed to their communities, people and the planet.
Entirely from a point of curiosity and to gauge where we were as a business, we completed B Corp’s Impact Assessment in late 2020, swiftly realising our score was well above the 80 points required to secure certification. With this new found knowledge we decided to join the queue and press ahead with our certification.
Though it’s much sought after in the world of spirits it is extremely rare; at the time of our certification we were one of only eight spirit manufacturers from across the globe and just the fourth in the UK. The House of Botanicals achieved certification in December 2021 with a score of 102.1. We are also proud to be the first B Corp Certified business across all sectors in our hometown of Aberdeen.

NET ZERO
We’re currently undergoing assessments as part of our commitment to be certified as Carbon Negative, ensuring we remove more carbon than we produce via our operations. Our assessments are also taking into account our impact from our personal lives and won’t just be focusing on our business activity.
Though our set-up isn’t energy intensive and currently powered by renewables, we wish to have a positive impact on the environment by partnering with a Carbon Capture business as we don’t see Carbon Neutrality as an acceptable option.
Full details of our Carbon Footprint and Capture will be shared here in the coming weeks.
WASTE & RECYCLING
Though it’s currently impossible to be 100% zero-waste due to spent cleaning materials and the like, we are proud to now generate less than two 100l bags of waste to landfill in a calendar year, reviewing our operations regularly to further reduce this impact.
We work locally with EIS to recycle all paper and cardboard, with any plastic received on-site (generally by way of pallet-wrap) processed as Refuse Derived Fuel at a cost to the business, but as a means to divert away from landfill.
All spent botanical matter used at The House of Botanicals is processed to be used as commercial compost and never goes to landfill.
PACKAGING
Our range of Gins and Aperitivi & Digestivo are packed in recyclable glass with paper labels, and are sealed with a natural wood cork that will naturally breakdown in your home composter.
Our Cocktail Bitters are equally packed in recyclable glass with paper labels, however the dasher & cap is plastic and will need to be disposed of dependent on the recycling & waste services in your locality. We hope to one day source an alternative dasher with zero plastic.
The packaging used for the transit of our goods, both in consumer and business sales, is sourced from Pitreavie Packaging and ASC Direct. Both the outer card and paper void fill are 100% recyclable, additionally produced from recycled materials. All our bottles of The House of Botanicals Gin and Pietro Nicola Aperitivi & Digestivo are delivered to consumers using Flexi-Hex‘s plastic free, biodegradable and 100% recyclable packaging.
We don’t offer gift packaging as a general business practice as we view it as a needless expense that is passed on to the consumer.
REFILLERY
With a planned refit of The House of Botanicals that will see our existing shop & tasting room relocated to the entrance of our unit and a distilling room introduced in our existing office space, we intend to introduce a service that will enable you to refill and reuse bottles.
After months of assessments to find what would work best with our offering we’re now trialling recyclable pouches to offer a refill service for online sales, so you can refill and reuse bottles at home.
CERTIFICATIONS
BOTANICALS
The House of Botanicals source our array of natural botanicals with a hyper fair-trade ethos, buying directly from farmers and growers in every case possible to ensure money is funnelled back into the pockets and communities of those who matter.
Where we can’t purchase direct due to volume requirements or logistics, we work with businesses that adopt a similar ethical approach to ourselves such as Dear Green or DarkWoods, fellow B Corps committed to their supply chain and wide communities.
We also have a commitment to working with local and/or seasonal botanicals such as the green walnuts used in our annual vintage Nocino, the Amalfi lemons in our Limoncello, or the berries in our ABZ Dry and Raspberry Old Tom Gins. We believe the rampant need for having everything available all of the time has a negative impact on the planet.
At no point in the production of our multi award-winning botanical spirit range do we work with synthetic materials.

AWARDS
We don’t do what we do for awards, though sometimes it’s an amazing feeling when your hard work is recognised. At The House of Botanicals we’ve went to great lengths to build a business that people can be proud of, doing all we can for the benefit of our people, communities and the planet, aligning our impact on those with our need to make profit. It’s a challenge, but we truly believe business shouldn’t operate in any other way.
